Historical Commission clears Hubbard House restoration, waives demolition delay

WESTON — October 29, 2024 — Weston Historical Commission clears 80 Orchard Avenue restoration and protects 445 Glen Road cottage 6-1. The commission unanimously waived a demolition delay on architect Patrick Ahern's restoration of the 1883 Charles Townsend Hubbard House, including a cedar roof, brown stain restoration and a modest dining-room extension. Members voted 6-1 to find the 1902–1915 Charles Jones gardener's cottage at 445 Glen Road significant, with Kathryn Scadden dissenting over architectural concerns; John Thompson called the house "beat up" but voted yes. The detached garage at 647 Boston Post Road was found not significant. A Community Preservation Committee–funded appraisal of the Hyde family's five-acre 487 Wellesley Street property laid out five scenarios spanning roughly $3 million to $6 million, kickstarting discussions about combining historic preservation, farmland and housing.
