Fire Station Working Group recommends $72,000 design and $15,950 hazmat contracts
WESTON — October 28, 2024 — Weston Fire Station Working Group recommends $87,950 in design and hazmat contracts in unanimous vote. The group endorsed a $72,000 concept-design proposal from architect Tecton and a $15,950 hazardous-materials investigation managed by owner's project manager Vertex, with both heading next to the Permanent Building Committee and town manager Leon for signature. Vertex's Jeff D'Amico called the Tecton proposal "very robust" for concept-stage work, noting it carries a LEED sustainability placeholder and per-site allowances for traffic signals and retaining walls. Member Jim pressed the design team to preserve both north-side and south-side primary-station scenarios; Tecton principal Rebecca said one super-station concept and one renovation concept would be modeled, then adjusted for site-specific items. Member Carl asked that the comparables list carry a Consumer Price Index adjustment alongside bid-year anchors. First conceptual floor plans are expected in two to three weeks, with contractor cost numbers in January.
