Historical Commission backs tavern exhibit funded by chest sale proceeds

WESTON — April 28, 2020 — Weston Historical Commission backs concept of using $52,000 antique chest proceeds for Josiah Smith Tavern exhibit. At its April 28 remote meeting, the commission endorsed in principle Weston Historical Society Director Pam Fox's proposal to spend up to $25,000 of the sale proceeds from a miniature Totten blanket chest on a three- to four-month opening exhibit in the restored tavern, with member Henry S. Stone Jr. urging support for a pending Town Meeting warrant article directing the funds to the commission. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern said demolition-delay hearings on 770 Boston Post Road and 271 Glen Road will be advertised for May 26 but continued if site visits remain impossible under Gov. Baker's emergency order. Project representative Adrienne reported the Josiah Smith Tavern has received its building permit and stands at submittal 270 of approximately 1,300. The commission unanimously approved prior minutes with member Alicia Primer abstaining.
