Finance Committee reviews IT, recreation and DPW budgets ahead of May Town Meeting

WESTON -- February 15, 2024, Weston Finance Committee absorbs three department budgets in one sitting. The committee on Feb. 15 heard IT, Recreation and DPW preliminary fiscal 2025 requests, taking no funding votes but signaling a packed May warrant. IT Director Tracy Sullivan requested $83,558 for Rubrik, an immutable ransomware-recovery platform endorsed by EOTSS, plus a $198,450 storage-area-network replacement five years in the plan. "You can't ask if you're going to get hit. It's when you're going to get hit," Sullivan said. Recreation Director Chris Fitzgerald reported a 1.8 percent expense increase and projected a $10,000 surplus after raising pool fees 10 percent. DPW Director Tom Cullen flagged a $325,000 stormwater line funding the overdue MS4 phosphorus plan, $1.95 million for roads, and a forthcoming $600,000 Route 30 design article. Town Manager Leon Gaumond said the fall warrant is likely to carry water tank land-swap, zoning and possible construction articles. The committee approved prior minutes 5-0.
