Finance Committee reviews IT, recreation and DPW budgets ahead of May Town Meeting

WESTON — February 15, 2024 — Weston Finance Committee absorbs three department budgets in one sitting. The committee on Feb. 15 heard IT, Recreation and DPW preliminary fiscal 2025 requests, taking no funding votes but signaling a packed May warrant. IT Director Tracy Sullivan requested $83,558 for Rubrik, an immutable ransomware-recovery platform endorsed by EOTSS, plus a $198,450 storage-area-network replacement five years in the plan. "You can't ask if you're going to get hit. It's when you're going to get hit," Sullivan said. Recreation Director Chris Fitzgerald reported a 1.8 percent expense increase and projected a $10,000 surplus after raising pool fees 10 percent. DPW Director Tom Cullen flagged a $325,000 stormwater line funding the overdue MS4 phosphorus plan, $1.95 million for roads, and a forthcoming $600,000 Route 30 design article. Town Manager Leon Gaumond said the fall warrant is likely to carry water tank land-swap, zoning and possible construction articles. The committee approved prior minutes 5-0.
