Finance Committee reviews FY21 budgets, hears police request for second school resource officer
WESTON — February 13, 2020 — Weston Finance Committee reviews FY21 department budgets, hears unfunded police request for second school resource officer. Police Chief Steven Shaw told the committee the department wants a second SRO to cover the Field School campus alongside the existing officer at the high school and middle school, a request Town Manager Leon Gaumond did not include in his recommended budget. Shaw also praised a $40,000 part-time mental health clinician shared with Wellesley, saying an officer told him "we have to figure out how to get her full-time." Facilities director Gary Smith presented a roughly $105,000 salary increase driven largely by an $82,000 sustainability coordinator position and announced a $100,000 climate action plan grant plus a pending $200,000 Green Communities LED application. Recreation Director Chris Fitzgerald said Memorial Pool renovations, including a mandatory $500,000 filter replacement between 2023 and 2025, are coming in under a $5 million ceiling in a CPC-funded feasibility study.
