Finance Committee approves $5,000 historical society reimbursement after canceled fall meeting
WESTON — January 27, 2022 — Weston Finance Committee releases $5,000 to historical society, previews $90.6M FY23 budget. The committee voted 6-1 on Jan. 27 to transfer $5,000 from its reserve fund — which exceeds $600,000 — to reimburse the Weston Historical Society for conservation of artifacts headed to a May Josiah Smith Tavern exhibit, after the canceled fall town meeting cut off the original CPA route. Society representative Pam Fox said roughly $4,000 had already been spent on conservators and that the society has separately raised over $20,000 toward the exhibit. Marion Village board President Todd Foote separately previewed a $195,000 CPA request to reside 10 cottages on the 62-unit affordable senior complex; board member Ken Fish argued seniors of "limited income" should not bear the cost. Town Manager Leon Gaumond unveiled a $90.6 million FY23 budget, a 2.9 percent increase, drawing $2.1 million in free cash, and disclosed Moody's reaffirmed Weston's triple-A bond rating.
