Conservation Commission opens western Case Estates to managed deer hunting

WESTON — February 23, 2021 — Weston Conservation Commission opens part of Case Estates to managed deer hunting and clears five wetland filings. The commission voted 6-0-1 to open a remote western section of Case Estates and an adjoining piece of the Chestnut Street conservation area to permitted hunters and to create a Weston Deer Hunter Subcommittee, after departing administrator Michelle Grant reported a record 45 deer harvested this season, including four from MWRA land. Hunters scouting the new parcel had already found two illegal deer stands. The commission also issued orders of conditions for a teardown-and-rebuild at 416 Conant Road, a 3.5-acre riverfront-area redevelopment at 673 Wellesley Street by Wellesley Street LLC (where landscape architect Angela's plan adds 11 canopy trees, 18 sub-canopy trees and 39 native shrubs while restoring roughly 5,000 square feet of lawn to woodland), and a thrice-heard invasive-species and stormwater plan at 14 Byron Road that abutters' counsel George Hayler said his clients now back as "a proponent of what has been proposed." Negative determinations were issued at 49 Woodchester Drive and 57 Lexington Street; 518 South Avenue was continued to March 9.
