Conservation Commission closes hearing on Route 20 intersection redesign

WESTON — November 19, 2024 — Weston Conservation Commission clears Route 20 redesign for spring 2026 construction. Commissioners voted unanimously Nov. 19 to close the hearing and issue an order of conditions for the MassDOT-funded Route 20/Boston Post Road/Wellesley Street reconstruction, which adds a traffic signal, eliminates the westbound right-turn slip lane and installs buffered bike lanes within the project limits. VHB Senior Project Manager Tim McIntosh said the design increases impervious area by 9 percent overall, with 88 percent of that from new sidewalks and bike paths. To satisfy the Cambridge Water Department, which manages the Stony Brook outstanding resource water, the town added 6-foot perforated leaching basins; Town Engineer Jay said Weston will maintain or pay for them if MassDOT balks, calling it "a win-win for the town and for Cambridge." The commission also issued a negative-one determination at 75 Wellesley Street for the River School and a certificate of compliance for 97 Bogle Street.
