Conservation Commission approves Newton Street drainage, funds knotweed campaign

WESTON — July 7, 2020 — Weston Conservation Commission clears Newton Street drainage phase one and funds a four-site knotweed campaign. The board unanimously issued an order of conditions for a DPW project, presented by Town Engineer Steve Fogg, that will pipe stormwater from Doublet Hill south to a treatment unit targeting "better than 80 percent removal of total suspended solids" before discharge across MWRA land. Resident Mark McCaughey told members velocity off Doublet Hill has wiped out his driveway "for the third time this year," and James Repp pressed for upstream interception on a road the town does not control. Members also approved roughly $4,000 for Land Stewardship Inc. to begin three-to-four-year knotweed eradication at Case Estates, 40 Acre Field, College Pond, and Sunset Corner; waived tree-mitigation planting for storm-damaged trees at member Alison Barlow's 22 Newton Street property after a microburst; and ratified an emergency certification for Beaver Solutions to breach a three-foot dam ahead of the Merriam Street culvert replacement.
