Weston UPC pauses logo work, sets January 9 meeting on draft vision

WESTON — December 18, 2024 — Weston Unified Planning Committee pauses logo work, eyes January draft vision. The committee on December 18 voted unanimously to set aside competing logo designs — submitted by Weston High School students, member Marga Hutcheson and Select Board member Laurie Bent's son — until a draft vision statement is in hand. Barrett Planning Group's Olivia walked members through a 100-plus-page survey analysis with 593 responses and a 74 percent completion rate, skewed toward white, long-term homeowners earning over $200,000. Council on Aging Chair Danielle Black, citing the failed Section 3A vote, urged "tweaks" over "wholesale change." Barrett principal Judi Barrett called Weston's town meeting "pretty tame" by regional standards and advised, "Don't try to do anything big in a hostile election year." Member Bob Scott noted 20 percent of town meeting voters opposed even the UPC's supplemental appropriation. Barrett will deliver a one-page draft vision the week of January 6; the committee meets January 9 at 7 p.m.
