Weston Select Board interviews two police chief finalists, delays appointment to Friday

WESTON — March 23, 2022 — Weston Select Board interviews two police chief finalists for post vacant since late 2021. The board heard Wednesday from Dennis Linehan, deputy chief in Avon with 27 years of experience and a $27 million Nashua budget under his belt, and Marco Lucci, deputy chief in Warwick, Rhode Island, with 20 years of experience and a cybersecurity graduate degree. Search firm Badge Quest managed the process, which drew more than two dozen applicants and included an assessment center staffed by three Massachusetts police chiefs; recruitment was led by board designee Laurie Bent. Both candidates were pressed on officer diversity — Lucci argued "if people aren't applying, we cannot diversify the department" — and on managing the state's post-reform training and accreditation requirements. The board made no appointment Wednesday, agreeing instead to deliberate in executive session Friday, March 25.
