Weston Select Board Fills Three ZBA Vacancies, Seats New Traffic Committee Member

WESTON — November 15, 2022 — Weston Select Board fills three Zoning Board of Appeals vacancies and urges local store to wait on beer-and-wine license bid. Chair Chris Houston, with members Harvey Buzzard and Laurie Bent, voted unanimously Tuesday to redesignate existing associate member Steve Larroque as a full ZBA member and to appoint commercial real estate operator Laura Mince and retired Boston University law professor Wendy Kaplan Armor — a former ZBA chair from 1992 to 2010 — as associate members, filling seats that had left the board three vacancies short. A third applicant, real estate broker Derek Hui, was advised against the ZBA role due to potential conflict-of-interest concerns and steered toward openings on the Affordable Housing Trust instead. Chris Nickell, co-owner of Weston Provisions, asked the board to support an accelerated beer-and-wine sales license, but Town Manager Leon Gorman warned any special legislation could take "a year to year and a half" through the State House, and Houston cited a roughly $15,000 cost for a special town meeting, leading the board to advise Nickell to pursue the May Annual Town Meeting route instead. The board also appointed Linda Nelson to the Traffic and Sidewalk Committee through June 30, 2025.
