Weston School Committee weighs new Field vice principal and shared K-3 assistant principal
WESTON — January 16, 2024 — Weston elementary budgets put a Field vice principal and a shared K-3 assistant principal on the table. The School Committee on Jan. 16 reviewed an 8.59 percent increase at Field School, where Principal Dan Green requested a 1.0 grade four teacher, a 1.0 general learning assistant for the Innovation Center makerspace, and a 1.0 vice principal, citing 31 new students since July and 80 behavioral referrals — 20 serious — since September. Country's 5.44 percent increase restores a seventh kindergarten section; Woodland decreases 2.73 percent, losing a section and a 1.0 instructional coach. Both K-3 buildings would share a 0.5 assistant principal. Member Atiyah pushed back: "We are not solving the problem." Superintendent Dr. Zaleski defended the vice principal as a pilot, saying "we haven't built the program yet." School improvement plans were approved unanimously.
