Weston School Committee Sets December 4 Deadline for New Superintendent Selection

WESTON — October 16, 2023 — Weston School Committee revises superintendent search timeline and directs MASC delegate votes. The committee unanimously adopted a compressed search schedule at its October 16 meeting, moving the finalist announcement to November 6 and setting community engagement for the week of November 27, with a final selection still targeted for December 4. Business Director Steve Simonelli presented the FY2023 year-end report showing a $186,240 positive balance on a $37.7 million salary budget and $10.5 million expense budget, with circuit breaker reimbursement revenues of approximately $1.6 million against only $1 million spent flagged as a recurring pattern. The committee directed its MASC delegate to fully support stable METCO funding and removal of the $800 million Accelerated Repair Program cap, to oppose an immediate MCAS moratorium and a firearm safe-storage resolution, and to seek amendments before supporting DEI coordinator and school bus safety resolutions. The committee also approved four new student clubs, WFC-funded curriculum visits, and the first soup price increase since 2009, bringing cafeteria soup to $2.75 and $2.45.
