Weston School Committee ratifies four-year teachers contract at year-end session
WESTON — June 12, 2023 — Weston School Committee unanimously ratified a four-year teachers contract with the Weston Education Association at its June 12 year-end meeting. Chair Kenneth Newberg praised outgoing WEA President Ed McLaughlin as "a formidable negotiator" who secured a contract running through 2025-26 that includes guaranteed weekly prep time for elementary teachers, expanded family leave, and increased stipends for coaches and club advisors. The committee also voted to adopt a new bus safety policy, abolish the long-dormant and unfunded Director of District Advancement position, and approve a 2023-24 meeting calendar — all unanimously on roll-call votes. A proposed update to the district's Anti-Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan, presented by Assistant Superintendent Dan Green and expanded to cover staff bullying for the first time, was deferred to a special meeting before the end of June after two members said they had not reviewed the full document. Acting Superintendent Kimo Carter announced that Shannon Dickerson and Brian Buck will join the district July 1 as principal of Woodland School and assistant principal at Weston Middle School, respectively.
