Weston School Committee narrows K-5 reading curriculum to three finalists

WESTON — October 7, 2024 — Weston narrows K-5 reading curriculum to three finalists, eyes February decision. The School Committee on Oct. 7 heard that its new K-5 supervisor of instruction and assessment, Deb, working with Hill for Literacy and a 16-member district team, has cut nine candidate programs to three — Into Reading, Wonders, and EL Education — all meeting DESE Curate and EdReports HQIM criteria. Thirty staff have signed up for a 20-hour science-of-reading course. Superintendent Dr. Kimo Zalewski said "we will never find a perfect curriculum" and committed to multi-year professional development. Assistant Superintendent Steve reported the district spent roughly $1.3 million on Amazon last year across 35,000-40,000 manual orders, with the Munis-Tyler electronic procurement system targeted for November. The committee unanimously adopted revised Title IX policies on second read.
