Weston School Committee Launches Superintendent Search, Accepts $850,000 in Grants

WESTON — September 18, 2023 — Weston School Committee formally launched its superintendent search Monday and accepted nearly $850,000 in federal grants. Chair Daina Selvig announced that every community member who applied to the volunteer application screening subcommittee was accepted, drawing participants from teachers, support staff, parents, a Select Board member, and a library trustee, with finalists expected to be announced October 30. The committee also heard a zero-cost sleep study proposal from a district athletic staff member working with Boston Children's Hospital, targeting 35 to 50 student athletes using WHOOP wearable devices pending Institutional Review Board approval. On facilities, an air conditioning assessment pegged the cost to cool 15 elementary classrooms at $10,000 and 70 middle and high school classrooms at $45,000, with the secondary work potentially covered by state SR2 funds before an October 1 deadline. A proposed tennis court community-use policy (KFB) was given a first read and carried to the next meeting, while a WSCE grant was pulled from the consent agenda over unresolved collective bargaining questions with the Weston Education Association.
