Weston School Committee launches strategic planning, hears 3A housing compliance briefing

WESTON — September 8, 2025 — Weston School Committee opens the school year with strategic planning focus group and 3A housing briefing. At its September 8 meeting at Case House, the committee heard from consultant Pam Gould of the Teaching and Learning Alliance, who led members through a structured focus group identifying graduate skills — including agency, critical thinking, creativity, and human-centered communication — as the foundation of a three-to-five-year strategic plan. Superintendent Karen Zeph reported that the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has agreed to encumber more than $250,000 in literacy grant funds for the district, but their release is contingent on Weston passing its updated 3A housing compliance plan at the October 15 town meeting. A Select Board member briefed the committee on a revised housing plan featuring roughly 40 percent fewer buildable units than the version voters rejected in December 2024, centered on the Boston Properties site at 133 Boston Post Road. The committee voted unanimously to approve Chair Daina Selvig and Vice-Chair Tiao Xie as School Committee liaisons to the strategic planning process, and then entered executive session to discuss collective bargaining with the WAPA and WEA bargaining units.
