Weston School Committee elects new chair, welcomes new member

WESTON — May 13, 2024 — Weston School Committee reorganizes as superintendent launches dual principal search. Outgoing Chair Kenneth Newberg presided over the May 13 reorganization in which Maya, the prior year's vice chair, was elected chair unanimously, with member Jeff Lucas as vice chair and Executive Assistant Derek Joyce as secretary. The committee welcomed new member Tiao Xie, who will lead the DEI subcommittee. Superintendent Karen Zaleski announced that High School Principal Dr. Green and Field School Principal Paul Perry have both resigned and laid out a six-week search timeline: postings went up May 8, interviews fall on May 24 and 29, community forums are June 4 and 5, and selections will be announced by June 10. "If I deem that it's not rich enough to proceed because of this late time we are in the year, I will flip this to potentially interim positions," Zaleski said of the applicant pool. The FY25 school budget passed at Town Meeting with 82 percent support.
