Weston School Committee creates ad hoc subcommittee to assess elementary playgrounds

The School Committee on Sept. 27 celebrated the middle school's federal recognition for achievement-gap closing, one of only five Massachusetts schools honored and the state's only secondary school on the list, and voted 5-0 to create an ad hoc subcommittee on elementary playgrounds aimed at Community Preservation Act funding. Vice Chair Ken Newberg said Weston's 3 percent CPA surcharge could push the state match "to about 38 percent." Superintendent Midge Connolly reported zero positives from more than 400 COVID-19 tests last week and confirmed Commissioner Jeffrey Riley's same-day extension of the school mask mandate past Oct. 1. The committee also approved a $1,933,573.77 warrant, $6,000 in WEEFC grants, and three new high school clubs.
