Weston School Committee authorizes letter pressing Lexington on EDCO obligations

WESTON — March 24, 2022 — Weston School Committee votes unanimously to pressure Lexington over EDCO dissolution costs. The committee convened a special session Thursday morning solely to authorize Superintendent Dr. Midge Connolly to sign a joint letter alongside 14 other communities in the dissolving EDCO educational collaborative, pressing Lexington to fulfill its assessed financial share before the June 30 close-out deadline. Chair Anita Rahman led the 5-0 vote. Lexington contends it was not a valid member when dissolution obligations attached, a position Dr. Connolly flatly rejected, telling the committee the other communities — including Wellesley and Winchester — had "stepped to the table" despite similar procedural disputes. Assistant Superintendent of Finance Sherry Matthews estimated Weston's exposure at approximately $20,000 if Lexington's unpaid share is divided among the remaining 14 districts.
