Weston School Committee approves leadership restructure after finance chief resigns

WESTON — November 4, 2024 — Weston schools post top-tier MCAS results while gaps for Black, Latino and disabled students widen. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kimo Carter reported 84 percent of grade 10 students met or exceeded expectations against a state average of 52 percent, with grades 3 through 8 ranking fourth statewide in ELA. But Black students in grades 3-8 trailed the district average by 43 points in ELA, a gap Carter called "probably our number one point of concern" because it is widening year over year. Superintendent Dr. Zaleski announced the resignation of Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Steve Namiko and won unanimous approval to create a director of finance and an interim assistant superintendent of technology and operations. The committee also approved FY26 budget guidelines and will vote Nov. 18 on a proposed 10 percent preschool tuition increase to $13,690.
