Weston Planning Board votes 4-1 to recommend denying MBTA Communities zoning bylaw

WESTON — December 2, 2024 — Weston Planning Board sends 3A compliance bylaw to town meeting with a recommendation to vote it down. By a 4-1 vote, with Chair Leslie Glynn dissenting, the board on Monday recommended denial of the MBTA Communities zoning bylaw it spent months drafting, citing a pending SJC ruling in the Milton case expected early next year. Members Alex Selvig, Shawn Lanier, Lori Hess and Jing Yu backed the wait-and-see posture. The compliant overlay would have permitted roughly 750 units across the Boston Properties/Biogen campus, Hobbs Brook, Granite Brook, Whiteman Tennis Center and other parcels — well above the town's documented need of roughly 400 units through 2040. "It's beyond embarrassing that it would take something like 3A to get housing into the town," Glynn said. The board separately and unanimously found the proposed districts to be "eligible locations" under state law, and recommended approval of a water-tank zoning amendment with one opposed and Yu abstaining.
