Weston Fire Station Working Group advances south-side primary station concept

WESTON — December 9, 2024 — Weston Fire Station Working Group narrows to two-site plan, defers north-side option after burial-ground discovery. At the Dec. 9 meeting, consulting architects presented concept site and floor plans for a south-side primary station on the middle-school baseball field, plus a significantly scaled-back, interior-only renovation of the downtown Center Station with new hot/cold zone separation, an ADA elevator and reconfigured bunk rooms. Members debated whether a 40-seat training room should be repositioned off the lobby for community use; the Fire Chief said roughly 10 to 12 staff would use it internally. Member Kevin pushed back on jumping to exterior material choices, saying "we haven't looked at three different ways to figure out the roof pitches" before settling on aesthetics. The group cited the prior week's failed water-tank vote — roughly 61 percent in favor against a two-thirds threshold — as a timeline and debt-capacity constraint, and will brief the School Committee Dec. 16 on the south-side site. Updated pricing returns in early January.
