Weston Planning Board Sends Rivers School Field Plans Back for Revisions

WESTON — March 6, 2019 — Weston Planning Board continues Rivers School athletic field hearing, citing unresolved netting and landscaping questions. The board on March 6 continued the public hearing for the Rivers School special permit and limited site plan review at 333 Winter Street after design principal Mark Novak of Activitas presented plans to convert natural grass fields to synthetic turf, demolish three school-owned Hovey Avenue homes, and install 30-foot ball netting along the campus's Winter Street frontage. Chair Leslie Glynn and fellow board members directed the team to return March 20 with revised plans reducing proposed netting from 30 to 20 feet, eliminating netting between the two 15-yard lines, and presenting a formal Winter Street landscaping plan to replace invasive bittersweet with ornamental trees — "not just leave a bunch of orphan trees to die in the front," Glynn said. The board also continued the hearing for a proposed 5,793-square-foot home at 146 Conant Road, asking town counsel whether it has authority to condition a private homeowner to maintain a municipal stream channel flagged by the Department of Public Works as a recurring flood risk.
