Weston Planning Board denies driveway widening in National Register historic district

WESTON — December 21, 2022 — Weston Planning Board unanimously rejects a proposed driveway widening in a National Register historic district. The board voted 4-0 on December 21 to deny a request to expand the stone-wall driveway opening at 221 Boston Post Road from approximately 13.7 feet to 19 feet, with Chair Leslie Glynn and member Adrienne Giske citing damage risk to an adjacent mature tree and the setting's historic character; member Alicia Primer made the motion, calling the request "completely inappropriate" for a historic area. The board also continued a four-session review of a 12,000-plus-square-foot new home at 297 Meadowbrook Road, asking the design team to return with three alternative gate designs after rejecting an 18.5-foot-wide steel gate as resembling "a wall" rather than an entrance. In the meeting's only approval, the board voted 4-0 to allow removal of a bittersweet-choked town cedar tree at 64 Wellesley Street, with a confirmed arborist finding that the tree had reached critical condition and could not be saved.
