Weston Planning Board continues Riverside Road review, pushes for earlier road improvements

WESTON — February 16, 2022 — Weston Planning Board continues Riverside Road redevelopment decision to March 2, citing unresolved road improvement triggers. Board Chair Leslie Glynn and other members pushed back against a proposal by Town Planner Ema to tie all roadway improvements at the former Liberty Mutual campus to the final certificate of occupancy for the site, noting that a skeleton-crew-era Liberty Mutual had never fulfilled earlier road promises to the Blake Estates neighborhood. A project representative said the development agreement already requires Park Road improvements to begin before the first building certificate of occupancy, with a roughly $3 million cash fallback if MassDOT-dependent additional improvements are not completed within two years of Town Meeting approval. The board also heard an introductory public forum on a proposed private tree protection bylaw for new construction, drawing on nearly 500 survey responses in which two-thirds of respondents supported stronger tree protection — the working group must file a draft warrant article by the end of February for possible action at May Town Meeting.
