Weston Planning Board Continues Liberty Mutual Parking Review, Seeks Better Data
WESTON — June 21, 2018 — Weston Planning Board continues Liberty Mutual parking expansion review, demanding traffic demand management data. The board voted unanimously to push the hearing for a proposed 376-space parking expansion at Liberty Mutual's 20 Riverside Road facility to July 25, asking the company to document shuttle services, flexible-schedule policies, and utilization rates at comparable office sites before the board will advance the application. The 80,000-square-foot facility currently has 224 spaces for 280 employees; Liberty Mutual seeks to raise the employee cap to 433 and build parking across two new surface lots, one of which would sit on approximately 35,000 square feet of leased MassDOT land. Board members argued the proposed ratio of roughly 0.85 spaces per employee appeared high relative to current best practices and staggered work schedules, with one member noting Route 20 near School Street already sees near-45-minute delays to travel half a mile during peak hours. The board also approved site plan certificates of action for 123 Newton Street, 15 Laurel Road, 101 Concord Road Lot 3, and — by a 4-1 vote — 45 Willard Road.
