Weston panel votes to seek $2.75 million for study
School Buildings Meeting · Meeting of September 10, 2026
Weston School Building Committee votes 5-0 to seek $2.75 million for a high school feasibility study. The panel, chaired by a member identified only as Ken, trimmed the figure from an earlier $3 million ask after member Dan warned against "shortchang[ing] designers" with too low a number. The study would explore renovation, replacement, or a combined high school-middle school option under a Massachusetts School Building Authority invitation, against a $172 million planning-level estimate to renovate existing buildings.
Members debated how to present a 31 percent state reimbursement figure, with Dan cautioning that residents could unfavorably compare it to Watertown's reported 33 percent rate. The committee also unanimously approved its August 27 minutes, 6-0, and set a November special town meeting vote on the funding request, with warrant language due for final committee approval in late September.
