Weston Open Space Panel Forms Working Groups, Sets October Survey Deadline

WESTON — September 11, 2025 — Weston's open space committee surpassed 500 survey responses and organized two drafting subgroups as it moves toward public forums in late October. The Open Space and Recreation Planning Committee, meeting September 11, confirmed 504 responses to its ongoing OSRP survey — topping the previous cycle by roughly 100 — with the town green named as a top open space by 44 percent of respondents, followed by the Mass Central Rail Trail at 43 percent and Landham Farm at 40 percent. Residents under 24, non-English speakers, and those needing accessibility accommodations were flagged as underrepresented in the survey pool against 2023 census data. The committee set September 30 as the survey close date and voted to organize an analysis-of-needs working group — with members Glenn, Drew, and Emily volunteering — to synthesize the survey data alongside an updated 2017 needs assessment, with a target completion of late October. Public community forums are tentatively planned for October 26 (in-person) and October 27 (virtual), with a full committee planning session scheduled for October 6 at 6 p.m.
