Weston Middle School Advances Class of 2030 at Annual Moving On Ceremony

Weston Middle School 8th Grade Moving On Ceremony · Meeting of June 23, 2026

Weston Middle School held its 2026 8th Grade Moving On Ceremony Tuesday, formally advancing the class of 2030 to high school. Principal Oates and the school's grade level leader presided over the event in the school auditorium, where students from seven homerooms crossed the stage to receive moving on certificates. The ceremony opened with a combined chorus and orchestra performance of "I Am Still Your Dreamer," arranged by choral director Jonathan Eldridge with original orchestra parts written for the occasion to honor a student named Alice, co-directed by incoming music department head Colleen McDonald.

Oates recognized departing assistant principal Mr. Buck, who returns to Arlington Public Schools as a teacher, and longtime administrator Teresa Dryden, both leaving the school. Parent volunteers Melanie Kasdan, Kate Whitworth, and Laura Wilson were recognized for organizing the eighth grade semiformal, which Oates described as "the best one I've been a part of." Weston Media Center recorded the event, and school administration indicated a link would be distributed to families.
