Weston Historical Commission imposes one-year demolition delay on 1854 Sibley House

WESTON — December 19, 2017 — Weston Historical Commission votes unanimously to delay demolition of 1854 Sibley House, pursuing relocation or preservation. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern and the full commission imposed the 12-month demolition delay on 104 Boston Post Road, a property at the entrance to the Boston Post Road National Register Historic District, as the owner's 40B affordable housing application remains under appeal. Member John Thompson will lead a feasibility study on moving the structure to a parcel on Wellesley Street, with the owner indicating willingness to fund a move estimated at $60,000 to $70,000. In the same session, the commission voted to seek Community Preservation Committee appraisal funds — estimated at roughly $4,500 each — for preservation deed restrictions at 261 Merriam Street, a 1901 Queen Anne home saved by a 20-member neighborhood LLC from 40B development, and at 71 Lexington Street, described in Form B records as one of the two oldest houses in Weston, built before 1700. The CPC meets January 27, 2018.
