Weston Historical Commission continues two hearings, votes on four properties

WESTON — April 29, 2019 — Weston Historical Commission declared three properties significant and one not significant at its April 29 meeting, continuing two public hearings to May 20. The most consequential case involved 2 Laxfield Road, a 1899 brick manor house where architects Doug Luton and Colin Flavon of Clayton Architects proposed removing two windows and 36 square feet of brickwork for a future addition, but commission members including Steve Wagner and Henry S. Stone, Jr. declined to vote without seeing full addition drawings; the owner has filed for both partial and complete demolition permits. At 44 Ripley Lane — identified in commission files as pre-1701, stunning members who noted it would be one of only a handful of first-period houses in town — homeowners Jamie and Molly Garrity won a unanimous significance vote and were sent to a public hearing for a substantial rear-wing reconstruction by Frank Shirley Architects. A 1922 Case's Corner Colonial Revival at 300 Meadowbrook Road similarly advanced to a public hearing, while a 1935 house at 338 Conant Road won approval for replacement windows found "not detrimental." The commission voted 200 Newton Street, which drew no applicant, not significant.
