Weston Conservation Commission to appeal DEP override on Newton Street wetlands

WESTON — July 13, 2021 — Weston Conservation Commission votes to appeal DEP override on Newton Street wetlands case. The commission voted 4-0 Tuesday to authorize Conservation Agent Jordan to work with KP Law attorney Amy Quesel to file an appeal of a July 2 superseding order from the state Department of Environmental Protection, which allowed roughly 200 square feet of restoration area at 95 Newton St. to be converted to lawn against the commission's prior conditions. Commissioner Josh Feinblum framed the precedent as the issue, not the project: "It's not the project that bothers me. It's that this was a concern of ours." Chair Joe Berman favored filing to preserve options and consulting counsel later. The same meeting approved an amended order of conditions for a garage and gravel drive at 72 North Ave., a negative determination on a deck enclosure at 384 Glen Road, and a letter of support for converting town streetlights to warm-hue LEDs. The commission also opened work on a possible local wetlands bylaw targeting May 2022 town meeting.
