Weston Conservation Commission closes two wetlands permits at June meeting

WESTON — June 6, 2023 — Weston Conservation Commission closes two notices of intent and navigates a contested landscaping review at its June 6 meeting. The commission unanimously issued an Order of Conditions for the Mass Central Rail Trail extension through Weston, clearing the way for DCR Director of Trails and Greenways Gerald Wahtler to put the project out to bid this fall and target a 2024 completion connecting the trail to Jones Road. A second Notice of Intent, for 27 Golden Ball Road represented by Aiden Schlopman of Stamps Game McNary, was also closed after the project secured stormwater and Board of Health permits; one member abstained on a Mullen Rule procedural ground, leaving the motion approved 5-0-1. A landscaping proposal at 33 Rolling Lane stalled after the Cambridge Water Department's Jamie O'Connell said relocating mature rhododendrons on a stream bank "seems like it's very unlikely that you're not actually impacting the bank itself," prompting applicant Chris Avery to pause the project rather than proceed to a full Notice of Intent. LandSake Executive Director Pam reported the nonprofit has raised $5.4 million of a $6 million campaign and is breaking ground on a 3,600-square-foot net-zero farm stand on town-owned land this month.
