Weston Conservation Commission Approves Three Wetland-Area Projects Unanimously

WESTON — April 8, 2025 — Weston Conservation Commission approves pool project with synthetic turf in first-of-its-kind residential wetland ruling. The commission voted unanimously at its April 8 meeting to close hearings and issue orders of conditions for three properties, with the most contentious matter being a proposed pool, terrace, and Forever Lawn artificial turf installation at 47 Yonge Road, which sits largely within the 100-foot buffer zone and 200-foot riverfront area of a perennial stream. Chair Reese Tullis and Conservation Agent Jordan acknowledged the case as the first residential artificial turf application within the commission's jurisdiction, with staff member Jordan noting he would consult state circuit rider Alicia Galen on whether additional synthetic-material conditions exist. The commission declined to impose long-term reporting requirements on the homeowner, settling instead on a verification of proper installation as a condition of any future certificate of compliance. The commission also unanimously approved a notice of intent for a new single-family home at 452 Glen Road — featuring a redesigned septic that reduced fill from 1,385 cubic yards to 1,154 cubic yards and preserved 10 additional trees — and issued a negative Determination 3 for a septic repair at 239 Winter Street.
