Unified Planning Committee opens consultant selection for Weston's first town-wide master plan

WESTON — March 7, 2024 — Weston launches first town-wide master plan effort since 1965. Unified Planning Committee Chair Laurie Bent, in an introductory presentation distributed through Weston Media Center, said the committee has issued an RFP to planning consultants, received proposals, and will review submissions in March with interviews and selection to follow. Bent said phase one — a vision-setting effort engaging boards, committees and the broader public — is expected to begin in June, with a full project timeline published then. The Unified Master Plan will cover the nine topics required under Massachusetts general law plus schools and governance, organized around the cross-cutting themes of "sustainability, changing conditions, and quality of life," and will look out roughly 20 years. Bent contrasted Weston's nearly 60-year gap with recent plans in Wellesley and Concord, calling broad community engagement "critical."
