Planning Board forms two working groups on Weston tree canopy

WESTON — January 22, 2020 — Weston Planning Board launches two tree working groups and defers Stonegate lighting plan. The Jan. 22 meeting brought together the Planning Board, DPW director Tom Cullen, a Select Board liaison and the Tree Advisory Group to form parallel working groups on right-of-way and private-property trees, with pilot guidelines targeted within six months. Cullen reported that a Davey Resource Group inventory of 87 miles of public roadway is now in the town's GIS and recommended more removals than expected. The board kept open a site-plan hearing for Stonegate at Jericho's 60-lantern, 60,000-lumen LED lighting overhaul, with Sue Zacharias warning, "you want to make a time when there is darkness out there," and Steve Oppenheimer questioning the 3,300-lumen fixtures. The board unanimously approved scenic-road and site-plan decisions for 148 Sudbury Road, 15 Pinecroft Road and 140 Country Drive, restoring an irrigation-well requirement that staff had omitted on advice of a water-use working group.
