Planning Board continues three major house applications to September after design pushback

WESTON — July 21, 2021 — Weston Planning Board pushes back on three large-home proposals in marathon session. The board, chaired for the night by Steve Oppenheimer in Leslie Glynn's absence, continued site plan applications at 576 North Avenue, 506 North Avenue, 40 Westerly Road and 461 Conant Road, citing concerns over size, landscape design, fortified perimeter fencing and hilltop siting in sensitive native woodland. Glynn told Litchfield Company's Gary Litchfield she had expected smaller homes from the Clifford Lane flexible subdivision than the 5,913-square-foot, five-bedroom house presented; Litchfield countered that average new-construction listings in Weston are 7,990 square feet and that his target sale price is under $3 million. Member Alex Selvig said the proposed perimeter fencing at 40 Westerly "sends a signal to the neighbors that you're not being friendly," and Oppenheimer added, "I'm looking for the dogs and the cameras next." The board approved removal of a hazardous multi-stem pine at 95 Walker Road and granted Litchfield permission to demolish the fire-damaged 506 North Avenue structure ahead of full approval, subject to erosion controls.
