WESTON — January 27, 2025 — Weston Fire Station Working Group approves $6,600 wetlands flagging, holds geotech proposal. The group unanimously approved Vertex's wetlands flagging proposal for the proposed primary station at the high school site on Jan. 27, while deferring a companion geotechnical borings contract pending confirmation that soil infiltration testing is included. Member Carl Stjernfeldt presented comparable-cost data showing Weston's two-station program at roughly 3.8 square feet per resident — well above the 1.5-to-2 range in peer towns — and warned the median 2027 cost per square foot of $900 sits 17 percent below Weston's carried figure. Co-Chair Jim Polando cautioned that the Tecton design's articulated massing could trigger pushback: "I'm not sure a lot of people in the town are going to believe that this is not significantly more expensive." Vertex's Jeff D'Amico set a schedule aimed at first cost estimates by April 14, with a sustainability options discussion on March 3.
