Weston voters approve Route 30 design funds, reject cemetery wall project

WESTON — May 6, 2024 — Weston approves Route 30 path design, rejects cemetery wall, clears Drabbington senior housing. Annual Town Meeting on May 6 passed a fiscal 2025 operating budget up 3.5 percent on a 371-81 vote, with Select Board member Tom Palmer projecting a median tax bill above $19,200. Voters narrowly approved $600,000 to finish design of a 3.7-mile Route 30 shared-use path, 285-203, after Select Board member Lori Bent warned the state would walk away from roughly $18 million in construction funding. In a rare reversal, voters rejected a $720,000 CPA request to rebuild the 1937 Central Cemetery wall 161-140 after Finance Committee Chair Lisa Raytano said a comparable repair could cost a third as much: "Let's see if we can do it for less money." A zoning amendment enabling 20 age-restricted units at the historic Drabbington Lodge passed 237-30, and a new 0.75 percent local meals tax cleared 342-125.
