Weston Town Meeting votes 173-101 to expand Select Board to five members

WESTON — May 5, 2025 — Weston Town Meeting voted 173-101 to expand the Select Board from three to five members. The vote on Article 15 sends home-rule legislation to a future ballot, three years after a 2022 citizens' petition endorsed the change with 72 percent support. The Town Governance Study Committee, chaired by Harvey Bossert, had recommended against expansion, citing flat population and low turnout — just 2.8 percent voted in the recent town election. The Finance Committee opposed it 7-1. Select Board member Lisa Revers broke with her colleagues, citing a 2020 Open Meeting Law violation finding and stalled projects. Voters also approved a 4.4 percent operating budget 235-33, a $49.4 million school budget, and $561,000 in CPA funds to restore the Merriam Memorial Gateway at Central Cemetery, but rejected a Greatland Realty Partners bid to allow a restaurant and liquor license at Riverside Labs, with the 77-48 vote falling short of two-thirds.
