Weston School Feasibility Group Picks Five Building Options for Cost Analysis

WESTON -- March 20, 2025, Weston's school feasibility working group advanced five master plan alternatives for cost estimating at its March 20 meeting. The HSMS Feasibility Study Working Group selected Baseline A, Option 1 (full renovation), Option 2 (new high school, renovated middle school), Option 5 (two new schools, high school in front), and Options 6A and 6B (connected two- and three-story new buildings) to be priced out ahead of a May 1 review meeting. A consultant confirmed Weston sits at the MSBA's minimum reimbursement rate, roughly 13 to 14 percent of total project cost after eligible-cost adjustments, and multiple members warned that pursuing state funding would add at least a year to the schedule while prohibiting a pool or field house from the funded scope. Assistant Superintendent Neil Trahan called the group's projected MSBA timeline "three times more optimistic" than his own estimate. The group also heard from abutter Toby Coet of Castleberry Road, who said neighbors are "just becoming aware" of the project and intend to monitor it closely.
