Weston School Committee Approves $44.9 Million FY23 Budget Unanimously

WESTON — March 7, 2022 — Weston School Committee unanimously approved a $44.9 million FY23 school budget and a new PE substitution policy for seniors in a brief March 7 session. The budget, totaling $44,900,111, represents a 2.5 percent increase over the approved FY22 spending plan and now moves to town meeting on May 7 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium, where residents present will cast the deciding vote. Chair Anita Raman called attendance "really important" because the budget "is voted for by literally the people in the room." The committee also voted 5-0 to adopt a one-year trial policy allowing Weston High School seniors to substitute participation in a school-sanctioned team sport for their required PE class — a move Raman stressed was driven by student scheduling choice, not cost savings. A consent-agenda warrant of $467,530.74 was approved in the same session.
