Weston Planning Board votes to seek formal role in water tank siting

WESTON — March 15, 2023 — Weston Planning Board votes to assert oversight role in water tank replacement project. The board voted four to one at its March 15 meeting to pursue formal planning review authority over the town's planned water storage tank replacement, a project that could involve up to three tanks and span a decade. Chair Leslie Glynn said the board's core mission requires a seat at the table on siting, screening, and neighbor impact, telling colleagues "that's our mission — if we don't, we should get kicked off the board." Vice Chair Alex Selvig cast the dissenting vote, agreeing on the goal but expressing concern about tactical timing ahead of a public siting forum scheduled for the following week. The board also deadlocked two to two on conditioning approval of the 121 Rolling Lane site plan on removal of nine Bradford Callery pear trees, continuing that hearing to April 5, and unanimously approved increased summer camp enrollment at Cambridge School of Weston, capping attendance at the requested level with a requirement to return to the board before exceeding it.
