Weston Planning Board takes public comment on 180-unit Route 20 apartment proposal

WESTON — March 20, 2019 — Weston Planning Board fields public pushback on 180-unit 40B apartment plan near Route 128. Mill Creek Residential and local developer Mark Romanowicz presented the Madera-Weston proposal at 751-761 Boston Post Road — 180 rental apartments on 12.5 of 62 acres, with 45 units affordable at 80 percent of area median income — to an advisory session whose comments will go to MassHousing as part of a project eligibility review. Board Chair Al Adelot noted Weston has only 149 affordable units against a 395-unit safe-harbor threshold, with four 40B proposals totaling roughly 750 units now in the pipeline. Residents pressed the team on a parking ratio of 306 spaces for 324 bedrooms, a traffic study covering Route 20 and beyond, and school-impact costs estimated at roughly $23,000 per pupil per year for a projected 90 to 100 new students. Developer Lars Onyem said a fiscal impact study is expected within two to three weeks and that the project's all-rental structure would apply all 180 units toward the town's subsidized housing inventory.
