Weston Planning Board Opens Debate Over Unlimited Water Tank Height Bylaw

WESTON — February 2, 2022 — Weston Planning Board opens debate over removing height limits on municipal water storage tanks. The board heard from Wright Pierce consultants Rob Williamson and Amy, who explained that the town's three aging tanks — at Payne's Hill, Doublet Hill, and Cat Rock, constructed between 1931 and 1946 — face replacement, with new structures potentially rising between 60 and 110 feet against a current 35-foot residential cap. Town planner Ema presented a draft zoning bylaw that would strip the height restriction while preserving all setback requirements. Chair Leslie Glynn expressed reluctance about "giving anybody unlimited anything," and multiple members called for research into how peer communities handle tank height standards before any vote. The board also continued three open site plan hearings — a new 7,134-square-foot house at 221 Boston Post Road, a contested driveway relocation at 70 Loring Road that has twice been denied, and a laboratory water-use review for the Riverside Road project — all to the board's February 16 or March meetings.
