Weston Planning Board approves Conant Road driveway, delays two special permits

WESTON — May 18, 2022 — Weston's Planning Board approved a driveway modification and heard a $105,000 sustainable landscaping grant pitch at its May 18 meeting, but a three-member quorum blocked action on two special permits. Acting Chair Leslie Glynn led an informal debrief on the failed Sustainable Tree Bylaw from Town Meeting, praising the "hundreds of volunteer hours" behind it while calling for a new path forward; she also noted approval of funding for a public tree maintenance plan, with contract work going to a firm called Planet Geo. Weston sustainability coordinator Courtney presented a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness grant application requesting $78,000 in state funds — totaling just over $105,000 with in-kind match — for two demonstration garden sites and a town-wide sustainable landscaping education program, with a grant decision expected in August. The board approved a certificate of appropriateness for a driveway modification at 470 Conant Road with an 18-foot rock-wall flare and a requirement for native replacement trees, then continued hearings for 863 Boston Post Road and 119-121 Church Street to June 1 after members Alex Selvig and a second member were absent; the Rivers School campus-wide summer camp permit decision was also deferred, as absent members must submit Mullins review forms before a four-vote special permit tally is possible.
