Weston passes over $11.3 million town center plan after single bid

WESTON — November 27, 2018 — Weston voters pass over $11.3 million town center overhaul after only one bid arrives. The special town meeting voted 189-72 to pass over Article 5 and rejected the companion $7.25 million utility-burying article on a hand count, after Selectman Harvey Boshart conceded the lone bid came in millions above the $6.8 million warrant estimate. Finance Committee Chair Lisa Reitano said one week including Thanksgiving was "not a sufficient amount of time" to evaluate the bid. Selectman Douglas Gillespie broke with his board, citing "between four and five million reasons" to wait. Voters did approve $8,475,000 for Case House rehabilitation 218-37, plus $81,000 and $251,000 in CPA funds for preservation restrictions on the 17th-century John Warren and Lilac houses. Selectmen plan to rebid in February.
