Weston panel adopts Housing chapter of master plan

Unified Plan Committee (UPC) · Meeting of September 28, 2026

Weston Unified Plan Committee adopts Housing chapter, eyes merging conservation sections. The committee voted unanimously to accept the Housing chapter "as modified" after extensive line edits led by member Robert Scott, clarifying that Habitat for Humanity, not the town, financed and built a six-unit Wellesley Street development on town-donated land. The chapter now projects roughly 100 townhouses and 208 apartments under Chapter 40B and MBTA Communities Act zoning over five years.

Member Adrienne Giske corrected a passage mischaracterizing the historic Kendall Green neighborhood as "tech-built," noting it was designed by Harvard and MIT-affiliated architects. "I call it misinformation," Scott said of the Habitat confusion. Members also agreed to explore merging the Natural Resources and Open Space chapters, citing extensive overlap, and deferred Historic and Cultural Resources review pending liaison Phyllis's availability.

The next meeting is October 19.
